Former mayor of Selebi-Phikwe Town Council (SPTC) Lekang Mukokomani has appealed to the Court of Appeal to be reinstated to his previous position.

About two years ago, Justice Tshepo Motswagole declared that Mukokomani was lawfully and procedurally removed from office on March 30, 2011. Mukokomani was removed from office following a vote of no confidence that was passed by the council through a 11 to one vote, with one councillor abstaining.

Justice Motswagole had said: "In view of what has already been said, it is obvious that this meeting was validly convened and accordingly the proceedings thereof are valid. Accordingly, the applicant had been lawfully removed from office and the Office of the Mayor has by that reason become vacant."
