SELEBI-PHIKWE: Former mayor for Selebi-Phikwe, Lekang Mukokomani, Benjamin Bagayi and Masego Ntsatsi have defected to the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) from the Botswana Democratic Party.

Mukokomani is the councillor for Ikageleng Phase Two. Speaking to Mmegi in an interview, BCP vice-president, Lepetu Setshwaelo said the three have been welcomed to the party which they had applied to join. He said their visit to Selebi-Phikwe over the weekend was to meet the trio over their application. "Some activists had concerns about Bagayi and Mukokomani.  They were not comfortable about the return of Bagayi to the party.  They also wanted to know about Mukokomani's case against the Selebi-Phikwe Town Council (SPTC). They wanted him to finish the case first before joining the BCP," he said. Setshwaelo explained that BCP is a national party and any Motswana is allowed to join it, adding that the three qualified on that basis.

Bagayi was a BCP member before he left the party to join BDP. He went on to contest for Thakadiawa ward in the last general elections under the BDP ticket and lost to a BCP candidate.
