Members of Parliament (MPs) continued the debate on a motion tabled by MP for Letlhakeng East Gordon Mokgwathi, requesting government to abolish the system of school fees in government/public secondary schools and technical colleges.

Leader of Opposition and Botswana National Front (BNF) president Otsweletse Moupo, supported the motion saying that the government was badly advised to introduce school fees at a time when there is still high unemployment and with many people living in poverty. He said that he was concerned at the "untruthful manner in which the Ministry of Education  (and Skills Development) sought to justify the introduction of school fees".

Moupo said that the idea was meant to cover inefficiencies in government and cautioned that school fees were a step backwards. He wondered why government chose to re-introduce school fees, 20 years after they were abolished, when the economy is doing well with a surplus budget every year and education being allocated P5 billion.
