Five MPs including three assistant ministers lost their parliamentary seats over the weekend in the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) primary elections.

Controversial assistant minister, Olifant Mfa is one of the major casualties, after he lost in Nata/Gweta. Little known Makosha Balatotswe caused a surprise by scooping 1,687 votes to beat Mfa who got 1,364.
