MPs critical of privatisation of Air Botswana

Members of Parliament have slammed the privatization of Air Botswana, which is not progressing well.

Debating the budget for the Ministry of Works and Transport, the MPs requested the minister, Lesego Motsumi, to halt the privatization process and give the House a comprehensive statement of the conditions involved.

"The house has the right to know whether it is true that one of the conditions is to liquidate Air Botswana," Gaborone South MP, Akanyang Magama said to the minister. He called on the minister to state what measures had been put in place to avoid the liquidation "because this would be a national scandal if the airliner were to be liquidated."
Defending her ministry, Motsumi explained that the matter is still under discussion and that "it is premature to say the conditions at this point."
