MPs 'corner' Matambo over figures that don't tally

Opposition legislators yesterday cornered the Minister of Finance and Development Planning and forced an adjournment to seek clarity on the mismatch between some expenditure figures and revenue sources in the Draft 2011/2012 Estimates of Expenditure from the Consolidated and Development Fund.

A heated debate ensued in Parliament when Finance Minister Kenneth Matambo wanted the House to adopt a corrigendum without the statement being intensely interrogated by the House.

Led by Leader of Opposition, Botsalo Ntuane, Guma Moyo, Nehemiah Modubule and Mephato Reatile, Members of Parliament (MPs) felt that it was unprocedural for Matambo to proceed with a corrigendum, as there was a mismatch in the figures given to Parliament.
