MPs call for legal protection of small businesses

One of the legislators who supported the Competition Bill in Parliament this week , Bagalatia Arone, of the Okavango said it was long overdue. Arone said as it is, small businesses are not sufficiently protected.

Arone said it is the responsibility of the government to make sure that the weak are protected. He also wanted to know how small business like vendors will benefit from the proposed law and how small businesses in the rural areas will lodge complaints with the High Court as stipulated by the Bill.

The MP for Maun West, Tawana Moremi, also supported the Bill, saying they have always complained about the Botswana Meat Commission's (BMC) monopoly, which should be done away with.
