MP Moyo warns of another FMD outbreak

Member of Parliament (MP) for North East, Guma Moyo, has warned that there is a likelihood of another outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in the North East District if government does not act now.

He said that the border fence between Botswana and Zimbabwe is destroyed and cattle and wildlife move freely between the two countries. There was an outbreak of FMD in the North East area in 2005. Moyo was commenting on President Festus Mogae's State of the Nation Address made last week.

"We have spent P27million to electrify the border fence but right now as I speak, the fence at Matsiloje village is down. Elephants and Zimbabweans have destroyed the fence and very soon there will be reports of new foot and mouth disease outbreak if we don't act urgently," he cautioned.
