MP joins residents in rejecting commercial sex work

Lefhoko who is a member of a parliamentary team holding hearings on the matter joined the residents of Selebi-Phikwe is slamming commercial sex work during a session on Monday. He said commercial sex work is a disturbing issue and he is strongly against its legalisation.
"The practice is totally unacceptable in our tradition and I am really uneasy and uncomfortable to talk about it. Let us try to explore other avenues to create employment rather than resorting to prostitution," he said. One resident suggested that in view of the HIV/AIDS prevalence rates, the profession must not be legalised. Some women said commercial sex work is a social ill that should be avoided at all costs. He said legalising the profession would open floodgates as gays, thieves, drug dealers and witches would seek a legal presence. "It will be an indication that we do not have a stand as Batswana.
