Moyo lobs a double whammy while Mfa is on a limb

Speculation is rife that exiting Assistant Ministers Guma Moyo of Finance and Development Planning and Oliphant Mfa of Local Government could have been pushed out other than leaving on their own terms.

President Ian Khama announced a cabinet reshuffle on Monday in which Moyoand Mfa will lose their cabinet positions in January. The same reshuffle brought Selebi-Phikwe West MP Kavis Kario into cabinet as Assistant Minister of Education to replace Lebonaamang Mokalake, who is taking over as the Assistant Minister of Local Government in place of Mfa.

The rumour mill is heavy with speculation that Moyo was forced to resign his seat after it allegedly emerged that he is under investigation for unspecified transgressions. Moyo, who was appointed in April this year when Khama became President, denied in an interview that he is under investigation. His cabinet post remains vacant so far.
