Mowana Mine employee charged with murder

FRANCISTOWN: A plant operator at Mowana Mine in Dukwi near here appeared in court yesterday to face a single charge of murder.

Tirelo Olefile (25) is alleged to have killed Zaphania Nkomo, a Zimbabwean, on Saturday at Botshabelo in Dukwi.The prosecutor, Inspector Oteng Selalame, told Magistrate Dumisani Bagopi that investigations into the matter were still underway.Selalame applied for the accused to be remanded in custody to allow investigations to continue.Besides the fact that he may interfere with investigations, Selalame said, he feared for the life of the accused because relatives and friends of the deceased were incensed by the death of their loved one. The prosecutor did not rule out bail for the accused after the investigating officer said he was satisfied that the situation was conducive. Olefile told the court that he had nothing to say concerning his remand and the magistrate put him back in custody for his own safety. The accused will appear in court on May 27 for another mention.
