Assistant Minister of Local Government, Maxwell Motowane has described the movement of people between Kaudwane and Mothomelo as a concern to government.

Answering questions at the Ntlo ya Dikgosi (House of Chiefs) yesterday, Motowane could not attribute the development to the influence of Survival International. He said he was aware that 16 residents of Kaudwane move between the two villages periodically while six residents of Kaudwane have moved to Mothomelo permanently. He said government is concerned about the movement because it has invested money in putting into place infrastructure and programmes in Kaudwane to enable the population to access services from there.  "As the bulk of these services are not available in Mothomelo those who have moved away from Kaudwane, either permanently or temporarily, will be denying themselves access to government assistance," he said. The assistant minister said the reason for the migration of these residents between the two settlements is not known.

However, he said that he was informed that the frequency has increased following the re-opening of a borehole in Mothomelo. Motowane was responding to a question from Kgosi Itsoseng Gaoonwe of Letlhakeng region who wanted to know if the minister is aware that some residents of Kaudwane settlement in Letlhakeng Sub-District are relocating to Mothomelo due to the re-opening of a borehole there and only go to Kaudwane for their monthly pensions and rations. Kgosi Gaoonwe also wanted to know if this relocation is not a concern to government as the people are essentially without a leader.
