A faction of the Botswana National Front (BNF), operating as a 'Temporary Platform', has demanded that the party Central Committee immediately lift the suspension imposed on those deemed to be dissidents.

On Friday, the group held a press conference at the University of Botswana, with a view to give its side of the story regarding the divisions in the party. In a tell-all statement read out by BNF ideologue, Elmon Tafa, the group attacked the BNF leadership saying it has led the party to near-collapse. The suspended party members in attendance were Lobatse MP, Nehemiah Modubule, his Gaborone South counterpart, Akanyang Magama, former Gaborone mayor, Nelson Ramaotwana, former member of the party's electoral board, Lebohang Letsie, Youth League member, Duncan Basenyapelo, International Socialist Botswana vice-secretary, Letlhogonolo Disang. Also at the press conference, but not at the high table were a number of high profile members of the party.

The group called on Moupo to save the BNF by resigning as president as well as calling a national congress to rescue the party from the brink of collapse. The group maintains that the recently held conference in Jwaneng was stage managed to give people the false impression that most BNF members have given Moupo the mandate to lead the party till 2010. They said that many members are disillusisoned with the current BNF leadership, but are intimidated to talk.
