Moupo in Maun for tribal 'cleansing'

Drums thundered and waists shook as feet stomped the ground in dance at the freedom square in Sedie, Maun, over the weekend.

And believe it or not, the cultural cleansing rites seem to have worked, as the sky suddenly turned cloudy and the soft breeze cooled the hot weather.
Flanked by BNF youth leader Nelson Ramaotwana, Gaborone South Member of Parliament (MP) Akanyang Magama and party chairperson and Lobatse legislator Nehemiah Modubule, Moupo walked majestically as he waved at the welcoming crowd at the rally.
The trio addressed another political rally in Shorobe village on Sunday morning.
In their membership recruitment speeches, the three men fired salvos at the ruling party, urging the electorate to "vote out the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) because its policies have sunk the country into a mire of poverty".

They said that BNF is the only party that can rescue the nation because "its policies will turn Botswana into a land of milk and honey where hunger and need would be no more".
Under the BNF, they said, the country's natural resources would be used to the benefit of citizens, unlike now when most of them boost economies of overseas countries.  They charged that the BDP has failed to industrialise the country and create jobs. Botswana depends on external factories for the processing of its raw materials, thereby creating thousands of jobs for the people of those countries when its citizens are desperately in need of employment.
