Moupo Calls For Anatomy

Leader of the Opposition Botswana National Front (BNF), Otsweletse Moupo, on Friday tabled a motion requesting government to decentralise and devolve power to local authorities and leave them with administrative and financial capacity to more effectively deal with problems in their respective areas of jurisdiction.

He started his presentation with a brief history of how Botswana operated before independence in 1966. He said councils used to enjoy a form of autonomy despite challenges such as lack of resources and manpower.

He said after independence government took over the councils but it was later discovered that they need autonomy.
