Motswana lands BirdLife post

BirdLife Botswana, a local conservation non- governmental organisatin (NGO) and an official representative for BirdLife International in Botswana has appointed Kabelo Senyatso as its first ever director.

The appointment was made at a joint board and annual general meeting (AGM) held at the organisations premises at Kgale Siding on May 26. The meeting also discussed future organisational structures and proposed marketing endeavours without compromising the organisations uniqueness. Extensive evaluations were also made on the challenges facing BirdLife Botswana. A review of such a nature was done to enable the organisation to judge its capacity in carrying out its core business, which is centred around four programmes being: saving species - mostly endangered species, conserving sites - important bird areas and other areas of conservation interest, protecting habitats - because birds and other biodiversity are best conserved by caring for their habitats, and empowering people - because biodiversity is best conserved by and for people. This requires BirdLife Botswana, being an NGO to have sound fund-raising strategies.
Senyatso graduated from the University of Botswana (UB) with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) majoring in wildlife ecology, and also has a Masters of Science (MSc) in Conservation Biology from the University of Cape Town.
