Motsumi addresses Air Botswana staff

Bagaetsho, ladies and gentlemen, thank you for giving me this opportunity to address Air Botswana management and staff representatives about the important matter of safeguarding staff interests in the proposed privatisation of the airline. It has always been my intention to come to talk with you, and assure you that your interests are at the forefront of Government's concerns in pursuing the proposed privatisation of Air Botswana.

As some of you may know, in December 2006, following a transparent tendering process, Cabinet gave my Ministry a mandate to commence negotiations with South African Airlink to explore proposals for privatisation of Air Botswana. Over the past few months a Government team has been engaged in these negotiations, which are now at an advanced stage. When negotiations have been concluded I will report back to Cabinet to seek a decision on whether and how to proceed.

Let me briefly outline some of the elements of the proposal that is under negotiation with Airlink:
