Motlhale to announce defection to BMD

The Member of Parliament for Ramotswa, Odirile Motlhale, is set to formally announce his resignation from the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) to join the opposition Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) at a press conference tomorrow morning in Ramotswa.

BMD sources say Motlhale has been one of them to all intents and purposes, having formally informed his supporters over the weekend.  The youthful MP will be unveiled by the BMD at the press conference that will be addressed by his friend, interim BMD chairperson Botsalo Ntuane.  Motlhale would not entertain any media enquiries yesterday at the National Assembly, although he donned a tie in the telltale orange colour of the BMD. Motlhale arrived at Parliament Buildings with BMD new acquisition, the MP for Shoshong Phillip Makgalemele.

Mmegi is reliably informed that Motlhale bid farewell to his supporters last Saturday. But Ntuane, who is also the new Leader of the Opposition, would not give any comment when approached regarding Motlhale's defection to the BMD.  The Gaborone South West MP said Motlhale had invited them to a press conference to held tomorrow (Wednesday) at the Emmanuel Counselling Centre in Ramotswa regarding his next political move. Curiously enough, BDP councillors of the South East South Constituency (Ramotswa) will also hold a parallel press conference on the same day in Otse.  Their press release, which does not say much about the agenda of the press conference, is signed by election assistant, Joyce Disoso Pheto and announces the venue as Legodimo Camphill Centre in Otse. The BMD has been declared Botswana's official opposition after it surpassed long time tag holder the Botswana National Front and the Botswana Congress Party with eight MPs.
