Botswana citizens continue to show interest in tourism businesses and the number has grown over the years.

So far there are 326 registered tourism businesses in Ngamiland District and 148 of them are citizen-owned, 124 are non-citizens while 54 are joint ventures. This was said by Minister of Education and Skills Development Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi responding to  questions by Member of Parliament for Kgalagadi South John Toto. She was speaking on behalf of Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, Kitso Mokaila.

In response to more concerns on the involvement of locals in the tourism industry, Venson-Moitoi said that though it was impossible to indicate the value of businesses owned, statistics reports show that the number of citizen tourism businesses registered is greater than that of non-citizens and joint venture. "It can be concluded from this scenario that citizen businesses are doing well. On the basis of this revelation, there is no situation to address, except to encourage locals to keep it up and invest even more," she said.
