Monare loses BDP youth leadership

SEFHARE: The outgoing Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) youth committee led by Bontsi Monare suffered a serious fate when attendants of the 19th youth congress halted the agenda and unanimously moved to dissolve it for failure to deliver.

The youth, who seemed fed up with the outgoing committee, even rejected the reports that the committee was supposed to present angry with the fact that Monare's report was not available, pushing for committee elections to start earlier than expected. The youth argued that the absence of the chairman's report was an indication that Monare's committee has failed since it was elected into office. They only moved that the congress agenda resume after elections upon request by the newly appointed chairman Andy Boatile who won the chairmanship by 211 against Monare's 117.

During an interview after losing, Monare said he accepted the results as the congress decided to change the leadership. "I accept the results but I am not going to comment on the issue of reports. We submitted all the reports to the party office to multiply because we do not have enough resources and the office was supposed to multiply enough reports for the congress," he said. He said despite the loss he is willing to assist in various capacities within the party. "There is always room for participation in various capacities within the party and in my constituency," he said.
