Monametsi to represent Bdp in by-election

Monametsi Bogatsu in Lenganeng Ward (Tlokweng) will represent the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) at the oncoming by-election after he won the ruling party primary election held in Tlokweng on Saturday.

The seat fell vacant after councillor Mothusi Lekoko who was also a BDP member, died early this year. The by-election will be held on May 26, while nominations of candidates should be received on May 4 at the District Commissioner's office Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) chief,  Gabriel Seeletso, said, - announcing the writ of election instrument issued by local government minister, Peter Siele.

The BDP primary election attracted 76 voters and saw Bogatsu garnering 42 votes whilst Ramaretlwa Kesebonye trailed behind with 21 votes. Other candidates were Abram Segokgo who got 10 and Alister McClean with three votes. There were no split votes. BDP elections committee member and Tswapong North MP, Prince Maele, who was overseeing the election urged those who lost to cooperate and work with Bogatsu to make sure that the party retains the council seat.
