Molf to unseat ntuane?

Insiders within the Botswana Democratic Party say a group of members within the party have been canvassing for the newly registered high profile member Robert Molefhabangwe to be nominated as a councillor in the forthcoming special nominations.

The Minister of Local Government Lebonamang T Mokalake is in the process of compiling the list of specially nominated councillors. Yesterday, when cabinet met, it is said among the topics was the list of specially nominated. There are about 135 seats available and Mokalake is expected to nominate a large chunk of that from within the ruling party as in the past.

Those who want Molefhabangwe in say, he could be a strategic addition to the party to help consolidate its recent gains in Gaborone and also to weed out those not associated with the current A-Team leadership in the party. Some suggest he could be placed in the Gaborone West South constituency to keep Barata-Phathi man, Botsalo Ntuane in check, potentially to dethrone him come 2014. President Ian Khama is said to have an aversion for Ntuane and some believe Molefhabangwe would come in handy when it comes to challenging Ntuane. Molefhabangwe's nomination would also, insiders say, be a reward for his recent enlistment with the ruling party. Molefhabangwe is said to have accepted his life membership card to the party last week.
