Molepolole to get new sewage system

Speaking to Mmegi, Opelo said though they were in the process of transferring the responsibility to the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Resources, his department had already designed the plan. "So we both have a sewage system plan for this village," he said. "It is a requirement that we get involved in sewage system infrastructure development to ensure that wastewater and sanitation master plan requirements are met." Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) and the council have been at loggerheads over who should be responsible for the development of the sewage system in Molepolole, Botswana's and Africa's biggest village. The council had maintained that WUC is §the only authority charged with the task of supplying potable water and managing wastewater.
Council Secretary, Whaza Tema, had told Mmegi that as far as they were concerned, WUC had taken overall responsibility for the supply of potable and sewage water in the village and that they therefore expected WUC to build the sewage system network. The council no longer had this responsibility.
