Mokaila gives blessing to CKGR mining

The Central Kgalagadi Game Reserve, recently the centre of a legal wrangle between government and the indigenous Bushman population over their right to the land. Now, contrary to what the government had earlier claimed, plays host to 112 companies licensed to do mining exploration there. The world's largest wildlife park, the Central Kgalgadi Game Reserve (CKGR), measuring 52,145km2, could soon turn into the world's largest mining desert metropolis with 112 mineral exploration licenses awarded to 14 companies in the last six years.

There are 40 licenses for diamond exploration in the CKGR granted to the following companies: Sekaka Diamonds (Pty) Ltd(27 licenses), New Port Farms (Pty) Ltd(2 licenses), Daheng Group Botswana (Pty) Ltd, Diamonex Botswana (Pty) Ltd (3 licenses), Kukama Mining and Exploration (Pty) Ltd (5 licenses), and Firestone Diamonds Inc (2 licenses).
