Despite confusion on who is going to represent the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) in the Ledumadumane East ward by - election, Simon Moipolai, has been identified as the aspirant candidate for the council seat.

UDC issued a statement to clarify the matter, because two UDC posters for the ward were already doing rounds on social media. One of the posters is that of the identified candidate, Simon Moipolai of the Botswana National Front (BNF), while the other is for Banks T. Ndebele of the Botswana Congress Party (BCP). The two parties are affiliates of the UDC.

The council seat became vacant after the death of the area councillor, Otlaadisa Kgwatalala, in November last year The statement from the UDC reads: "UDC would like to clarify the position regarding the two flyers circulating in the social media. After consultations within the opposition block in terms of the by-election memorandum of agreement, which has Alliance for Progressive (AP), Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) and Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) as it's signatories to this, there has been two UDC flyers canvassing votes for two different candidates."
