Mohembo dreams of first suspension bridge

The dreams and aspirations of Okavango residents could be realised in the not-so-distant future if plans at the Ministry of Works and Transport come to fruition.

The ministry is soon expected to issue invitations to tender for the construction of a bridge connecting the villages on the western fringes of the Okavango Delta panhandle to those within, popularly referred to as "overseas".

The eastern side acquired the dubious tag of "overseas" as it was literally assumed to be cut-off from the rest of the country. The area is not accessible by road. Like going overseas, it can only be reached either by sailing or flying. For ages, residents that included area Members of Parliament from Mpho Motsamai, Vister Moruti and Joseph Kavindama, have passionately advocated for the right to walk instead of just rowing and flying.
