MoH hires more staff

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has hired 94 employees after losing 82 professionals since August last year.

The employees who left include dentists, physiotherapists, nurses, doctors, laboratory scientists, radiographers and occupational therapists. A MoH spokesperson, Kushatha Phindela said that some of the officers left because of age, health or non-renewal of contracts for expatriates. Others departed to take up employment within or outside Botswana.

Early this year, the ministry upgraded the salaries of its medical and dental (doctors and dentists) staff following recommendations by the Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM). In addition to the upgrade, Health Minister, Professor Sheila Tlou told Parliament that the ministry had created more promotional positions for nurses to improve their conditions of service. She said that health staff in the public service would benefit from the provision of continuing education with in service lectures, short courses and postgraduate specialisation training.
