Mogoditshane council puts illegal dumpers on notice

MOGODITSHANE: The Mogoditshane/Thamaga Sub-Council has partnered with the police and the Gaborone City Council (GCC) to deal with illegal dumping of rubble and other heavy refuse. The sub-council chairperson Driver Motlokwa said those caught in the act will face stiff penalties because illegal dumping of rubble is rampant in the sub-district.

He said the police and officers from the two councils will patrol the area at night to catch offenders. He said the illegal dumping of heavy material happens mostly between 10pm and 5am. He explained that outsourcing of refuse collection and disposal has improved the state of the environment in the sub-district and given some people a source of income. "The outsourcing of refuse collection and disposal did not only improve the state of the environment but also empowered the community economically by providing job opportunities to locals. I feel proud to announce that through this initiative, two youth were able to further their studies with the money received," he said.
