Mogende: fiery, firebrand, outspoken and humble

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Fiery, firebrand, outspoken and humble. These are the words that are likely to dominate eulogies to the late Botswana Mine Workers' Union (BMWU) national chairperson, Golekanye Mogende who breathed his last breath on Monday 22 October 2008.

The towering Mogende was a humble man, described by many as a capable union leader. His death sparked outpouring condolence messages from across the spectrum. Mogende wore many hats during a life that spanned 56 years and came to a brutal end on Monday.

He was a politician, a farmer, a trade unionist and a Mmegi board member. It is natural that his death touched a wider section of the society.
