A case in which the President's daughter, Chedza Mogae is charged with drunken driving resumed yesterday at the Gaborone Extension Two Magistrates Court with Constable Onkemetse Keit giving testimony. The police officers told the court that she first met Mogae at Central Police Station on the night of June 17, 2006.

Mogae was then sleeping at the Community Service Centre (CSC) at the police station. Keit said Mogae woke up and pulled out a cigarette from her handbag and lit it. "She was interrupted just when she was about to take a puff," she said. Mogae then complied with the police officers' instructions not to smoke inside the CSC.

Keit said that together with her senior, Sergeant Daniel Tlalenyana and two other officers, she tried to persuade Mogae to go to the testing room but she refused for about 45 minutes. Upon arrival at the testing room Tlalenyana, who was holding Mogae's car keys and drivers licence showed her a breathyliser and explained how it operates. She was also told of her rights - she must provide breath specimen for testing, failure to do so would be tantamount to a charge of drunken driving; that she was not obliged to present the breath samples; and that the legal amount of alcohol allowed in the blood is 0.35mg/1000mm of breath.
