Mogae commends "well-rounded" GIPS graduates

There should be no room for sub-standard education, whose products will fail to compete with others for job opportunities and even business ventures, former president Festus Mogae has said.

Festus Mogae was giving a keynote address at a graduation ceremony at the Gaborone Instute of Professional Studies (GIPS) in Mogoditshane yesterday.

Mogae said while expansion of tertiary education is welcome, it is important to emphasise that quality should not be compromised. "Quality education should be the ultimate goal of these institutions," he said. He pointed out that students from private institutions should emerge as well-rounded independent patriotic individuals who can stand on their own and attract employers; quality should not be reflected only in the content of the curriculum but in delivery as well. He said this was so because a strong curriculum delivered badly could harm learners and the education system.
