Moeding re-admits suspended students

Moeding College has started re-admitting Form Five students suspended two weeks ago for bullying.

The students were sent packing for ill-treating Form Fours. Moeding principal Marcos Maedza said the bullies have been recalled starting with those involved in lesser misdeeds like forcing their juniors to tuck in their shirts and ordering them to march. "These will be given a beating as punishment while those who are accused of committing heartless acts on their juniors will face stiffer action like suspension to expulsion depending on the outcome of discussions with the department of secondary education at the headquarters," he said. He indicated that the school has already forwarded a request to the director of secondary education to expel one student. The student is alleged to have shaved the pubic hair of a junior. "There were a few other similar acts but only one has already been identified and we are waiting for a response from the department," Maedza said, adding that they are working on leads to nab other culprits.

The students have been divided in groups according to the seriousness of their acts. They will appear for a disciplinary hearing before re-admission. The admissions would go on until Monday. All Form Five male students in Moeding were suspended two weeks ago after they gave Form Fours sleepless nights at the school. They were accused of shaving the private parts of other students and burnt the hair and forced their victims to inhale the smoke. Some bullies allegedly collected money from their juniors using threats. The students have been recalled and told to go along with their parents. They were told in the presence of their parents to write the names of those they saw carrying out the bullying. By Monday, about 101 students had been linked with the bullying. They were sent back home with their parents while those who were cleared were made to sign contracts to abide by the school rules. Their parents co-signed the contracts before the students were readmitted to school. It is said bullying of the juniors has been rife at Moeding College for years. At one time, the board of directors requested the Teaching Service Management to transfer the headmaster David Tregilges to stem the tide.
