Legislator, Nehemiah Modubule has reiterated his fears that Lobatse could eventually turn into a ghost town. Modubule is the MP for Lobatse.

His latest fears come after the Minister of Justice, Defence and Security told Parliament that Gaborone will host a new High Court and a Court of Appeal. Previously, the MP has said there is no rescue plan to keep Lobatse vibrant like it has happened in Selebi-Phikwe. That was even before the government announced that there will be a new High Court and Court of Appeal in Gaborone. Besides being the headquarters of the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC), Lobatse has been the judicial capital of the country since the colonial days. Giving Gaborone a High Court and a Court of Appeal will definitely affect Lobatse and this deeply worries Modubule. "I did not know this fact (that the High Court and Court of Appeals are coming to Gaborone) last week when I made my fears known in Parliament.

"It is sad. Currently all the judges for the Lobatse courts reside in Gaborone. Their residences in Lobatse have turned into a waste of public funds. They commute from Gaborone to Lobatse, because people like Gaborone. With the new High Court and Court of Appeal here, now who will want to work in Lobatse?" he quipped.
