Moatlhodi blasts women politicians

The MP for Tonota South, Pono Moatlhodi blasted women politicians yesterday for seeking free rides to Parliament. He accused women politicians of thinking that they can get parliamentary seats on a silver platter.

He told female politicians to work hard to succeed in politics just like women in other professions. Moatlhodi slammed women politicians when debating the National Development Plan 10 for the Ministry of Justice, Defence and Security.  He hailed female soldiers who graduated last year for showing that men and women can compete for any position. He praised women police officers saying they face difficulties in their duties but they have shown commitment in their work and made sure that the nation is safe from criminals.

Moatlhodi expressed disappointment at the manner in which the merger of local and Botswana police was conducted. He said that the merger was carried out in a way that sabotaged the local police officers. He said that six local police officers were turned down at Otse Police College last week on grounds that they were too fat or they suffered fractures. "After working for 30 years for this government, you just dump these people like this? It is not fair," he charged. He appealed to Defence, Justice and Security Minister, Ramadeluka Seretse to consider reviewing working conditions for special constables. He said the officers are unable to access bank loans to improve their lives because they are regarded as 'temporary' employees.
