MoA tackles quelea bird threat

The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) says it is making progress in controlling the quelea birds that have been terrorising farmers in the Pandamatenga and Tswapong regions since early last month.

A press statement from the ministry stated that the exercise would be completed tomorrow. The birds have been found in the Pandamatenga farms in the Chobe district, Sedibeng and Malore farms in the Southern district as well as in some villages in the Tswapong region. Nine colonies had been identified in the Pandamatenga area, six of which have been controlled while the remainder will by tomorrow be taken care of.

The damage caused by the birds has not been determined as yet as concentration is on eliminating them.
