The Performance Improvement Coordinator, Gladys Ngwebula, said a performance-based reward system was vital to recognise and reward performance, especially best performance based on a review of signed performance plans on a quarterly basis. "For one to be rewarded, he/she needs to have met targets for that particular year and be the best, among others," she said. Ngwebula noted that the performance-based reward system was necessary to motivate employees to perform better in future plans and to encourage those who did not do well to compete for the benefit of the organisation and the public.
The Deputy Board Secretary of Ngwato Landboard, Otsile Ditiro, said the purpose was to implement the performance management system concept of positive reinforcement according to which both good and bad performance was recognised and dealt with accordingly. The event was also an opportunity for the sub land boards and the main land board to meet in a more relaxed but formal forum to discuss issues affecting their organisation and to bond. Ditiro said Ngwato landboard had performed above all land boards in the country, scoring the highest for two consecutive years. "This outstanding performance could not have been achieved had it not been for your positive efforts against challenges like staff shortages, inadequate resources, shortage of staff housing and shortage of office space," he said.
