MISA Botswana eagerly awaits, the gazetting of a Freedom of Information Bill as promised and stated by the Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration Mokgweetsi Masisi at the end of the 2012 Parliament sitting.

At the last sitting of Parliament, November 2012, Masisi promised the Freedom of Information Taskforce and the public at large that, as the ruling government, they will bring their own version of FOI Bill to the House latest February 2013, MISA Botswana said yesterday in a press statement.

"It is important that gazetting be done so that citizens can have an opportunity to respond to any issues that need their input into such legislation rather than rush the Bill through Parliament, when the time comes. Members of Parliament and especially Cabinet Ministers must be true to their promises to the public least they blemish the honourable positions they hold. As citizens we will continue to hold our elected officials to task when they fail to live by their promises and as such see this press release as a reminder to the Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Hon. Masisi, to keep to his promise. The demand for a freedom of information law is long overdue and in keeping with the Vision 2016 principles, we want to see such a bill actualised before the 2016 deadline," MISA Botswana said.
