The Ministry of Health has disclosed that in a period of a month time, it has recorded a surge in influenza and COVID -19 cases at an alarming rate, which are posing to be a great challenge.

Through the ministry’s statement, it stated that the cases have in some weeks reached over 8000 cases. “In the past four weeks, cases of influenza like illness ranged from 5300 and 8627 per week while those of COVID -19 ranged between 2 and 41 per week,” read the statement.

Despite the alarming numbers in these cases, there has been no recorded death thus far.

In light of the influenza and COVID- 19 cases, the ministry has requested that the public exercise safety precautions to protect themselves from these cases. These among others include; practicing hand hygiene protocols, promptly seeking medical attention and wearing of masks.

Though the numbers seem to be on a rise, the ministry stated that the situation is under control. “The ministry will remain steadfast in commitment to closely monitoring the situation and also to assure the public that the situation is under control,” the Ministry said.
