Ministry orders ABM to pay students' fees

The Ministry of Education has ordered ABM University College to cover the tuition and maintenance fees of about 55 diploma students who were purportedly discontinued for failing their courses. The students were studying Electronics and Electrical Engineering.

The college is reported to have terminated their studies though it only released partial results of their exams.

The students told Mmegi that they were shocked to be told that they had failed while they only received two official results from the 12 modules they did. Deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education, Golekanye Setume has written to ABM saying that the students should repeat the course with the college bearing the expenses. He stated that the Tertiary Education Council (TEC) should conduct an inspection at ABM to audit and assess their Electronics and Electrical Engineering facilities to determine whether they can offer the course effectively. Setume emphasised that the inspection report will inform them on the way forward in terms of the 55 students who are to repeat the programme.
