Ministry launches new birth and death certificates

An effective civil registration system is essential for accurate planning of programmes designed to promote the well being of citizens, the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Peter Siele said yesterday.

Speaking at the launch of new birth and death certificates in Gaborone, Siele said the documents have enhanced quality, with high security properties such as rainbow printing, printed micro-letters and anti-copy or scan protection elements. He stated that the certificates have first level security features that are readily visible.

"Embedded in the certificate as well are second level security features that require specialised tools to view. The new certificate is a more secure document that should be more difficult to forge. In this way, my ministry is directly addressing challenges relating to forgery of certificates as evidenced by previous incidences of this nature," he said.
