Ministry in bolus disaster

A number of farmers The Monitor spoke to on Saturday said they do not keep the boluses after killing a beast, while others stated that they never get them back from the butcheries. The bolus system was introduced 11 years ago to conform to the new European Union (EU) market requirement that enables the exporter of beef to trace meat, animal movement, and diseases.

Recently the Department of Veterinary Services, which also manages the Livestock Identification and Tracing-back System (LITS), issued a public announcement calling for the return of all used or unused cattle identification boluses.
