Minister emphasises private sector role in education

It is no longer possible for government to provide education for citizens without the assistance of the private sector, the Assistant Minister of Education Peter Siele has said.

Speaking at the opening of the reception classroom at the Northside Primary School last week, Siele explained that the cost of education is increasing because of expansion of the system and the government needs help.

He said that though the Revised National Policy on Education calls for pre-primary education, there are concerns about lack of capacity by government. He said it is difficult for government to take over pre-primary education because of huge resources required to meet the targets.
