Minister defends 'police shootings'

The Minister of Defence, Justice and Security Ndelu Seretse, has come to the defence of the police after a spate of police "shoot to kill" incidents.

Since the beginning of the year, two people have been shot and killed by the police in different incidents in Maun and recently in Gaborone.  The police have admitted that the young man who was killed in Maun was not the one that they were looking for.

In the past, there were a number of cases in which members of security forces shot and killed suspected robbers.  Opposition parties and human rights activists have expressed concern over the police shootings.
