If presidential heir apparent Ian Khama is to consult the public on who to choose as his Vice President, chances are that he would be told to nominate his former boss at the Botswana Defence Force Mompati Merafhe. A survey by Mmegi shows that the Foreign Affairs Minister tops a list of 52 names chosen by those interviewed to determine Khama's likely Vice President. The former army general has his nose in front with about a quarter or 24 percent of the respondents saying he is their preferred candidate. In second place is one time presidential contender and former ruling party strongman Ponatshego Kedikilwe with 15 percent of the people polled saying they prefer the Mmadinare legislator for the number two slot. His ally Daniel Kwelagobe comes third in the list of preference at nine percent while Gaborone Central MP Dumelang Saleshando of the opposition Botswana Congress Party (BCP) is at number four with five percent.

These four were chosen by 52 percent of the population in which 16 percent of the population said they did not know who to choose as vice President or they were indifferent. A total of 52 names were chosen as preferences for the post of Vice President. However many of these were not popular as some were choosen by less than 20 people, some were even choosen by one or two people.
