Merafhe stresses importance of education

Vice President Mompati Merafhe has said that government continues to devote a very big share of the national budget to education.

Speaking at the 10th anniversary of Rainbow High School, Merafhe said education has been allocated 20 percent of the total budget because government is aware that an educated and informed nation is critical to the social and economic development of any society.  The vice president said it is imperative that at this stage of development, funds be invested in the education of children must produce educated and skilled people relevant to the needs of the modern economy.

"That is why we continuously review the curricula offered at our schools and rolled various training and development programmes at tertiary level to address the current national skills deficit," he said. Merafhe said as part of ongoing efforts to diversify the national economy, the government established the Botswana Education Hub to position the country as a centre of excellence in the area of education.
