Merafhe Pass With Flying Colours

The much-anticipated mother of all battles between Vice President Mompati Sebogodi Merafhe and Gaborone lawyer Bernard Bolele failed to live up to expectations. The two were vying for the Mahalapye West constituency in the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) primaries on Saturday.

The youthful Bolele was expected to give the ageing Merafhe a run for his money but in the end, the duel became a no contest with no sparks. It was a classic mismatch as Merafhe proved too strong. The Vice President garnered 2,775 votes to Bolele's 704. The emphatic victory is attributed to the advantage of incumbency, hard work, a well organised and funded campaign and Merafhe's status as vice president, a position he got in April.
