Media over-regulated, publisher

Managing Editor of Dikgang Publishing Company, the publishers of Mmegi and The Monitor newspapers, Titus Mbuya says the media in Botswana is over-regulated by government, which is unnecessary.

Mbuya was addressing Women in News who took part in this year's World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) session held at Mmegi premises in Gaborone yesterday "on Challenges of Running a Media Group".

He stated that the government has introduced the Media Practitioners Act, which the media finds unnecessary. "It is there in the statutes and we cannot ignore it. Fortunately government has not started to use it but we do not know what is supposed to happen when they start implementing it," Mbuya said.
