Mbaiwa left in the lurch

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Last week's court order by the Francistown High court that temporarily reinstated Lekang Mukokomani as the Selebi-Phikwe mayor has dealt a death blow to former deputy mayor, Godfrey Mbaiwa.

Mbaiwa served as the mayor for only two days after his recent election but he is now left without an office as he had tendered his resignation from the position of the deputy mayor when he accepted the substantive position of mayor. Now, the court order does not affect the newly elected deputy mayor who was elected to deputise him.

Despite enjoying an overwhelming support from the colleagues who voted him into the mayoral position unopposed last week, Mbaiwa remains just an ordinary councillor and a second respondent in a civil suit instituted by Mukokomani at the Francistown High Court.
