Maze of insurance fraud

The country's insurance industry seems destined for another shakedown. In a bid to protect its interests and avert possible collapse, the Botswana Insurance Company (BIC) has rushed to court demanding an audit of Mosele Legal Services following reports of fraud, money laundering and illegal insurance practices by the company's directors, Base Sebonego and Motha Kaang.

With thousands of subscribers, Mosele Legal Services has emerged as one of the leading legal insurance companies doing business worth thousands on behalf of BIC.

According to an affidavit from BIC managing director, Dziki Nganunu, BIC has resolved to engage PriceWaterHouse Coopers to audit Mosele after a report by private investigators, Insguard. The confidential report attached to the filed court documents cites numerous instances of possible fraud and money laundering carried out by Mosele and Base Sebonego.
