Mayor applauds Dingake

* Does not support the traditional liquor resolution

Mayor of Gaborone City Council, Haskins Nkaigwa has applauded Justice Key Dingake's recent judgement of the High Court, in the matter between government and workers unions. Dingake had recently set aside the decision of the then director of the Directorate of Public Service Management, Festinah Bakwena to sack essential services workers for defying an Industrial Court order to go back to work.

When addressing a full council yesterday, Nkaigwa said that "we stand with the judgement and unions that workers were unfairly dismissed and should be reinstated." "If indeed we are a government that is concerned with the high rates of unemployment and poverty eradication, we have no intention to appeal judgement," he asserted."Failing to reinstate such employees is a challenge to government as we have responsibilities of fighting poverty and unemployment," he added.
